The Challenge Today in America, elementary drop outs are likely to be African American who comes from low income families. Therefore, providing educational assistance and guidance prior to children attending high school, is likely to decrease the elementary dropout rate within the African American communities. The Solution Genesis Exodus works with all four community players who benefit from a decreased drop out rate within elementary students. Students are provided academic assistance in areas such as reading and language arts which will result in academic success throughout elementary school through high school. Elementary Schools will decrease their student drop out rate by aligning themselves with a learning center that will provide academic support with a primary focus on reading comprehension and language arts as well as high school guidance. High Schools gain access to a more fundamentally skilled student that is prepared to academically excel in the classroom who would otherwise slip under the radar screen. Community Leaders will lend a hand in help breaking the intergenerational cycle of elementary students failing to enroll into high school due to a lack of academic success. |
To reshape reality - so that poor kids can attend college, so that people in the destitute corners of the world can get better health care, so that victims of human-rights abuses can be heard. Most of us see the world's most daunting problems as impossible challenges. But these groups see the world's problems as just . . . problems, ones that can be fixed with the right ideas and enough passion. And they see how the systems that produced those problems can be reinvented. So they get to work. These groups don't fall back on feel-good brochures to prove their worth. They quantify the difference they make. Genesis Exodus goals is to invent a brilliantly effective program to help low-income kids prepare for college: Achievements of over 75% of its target students will enroll in college - nearly double the rate of seniors nationally at the same income level. Genesis Exodus Center, masterfully articulates the links between college education, improved personal economic opportunity, and flourishing communities. The challenge for many of these groups now is to capitalize on the possibility they have created. For any of them to grow to massive scale, for their impact to be truly global, the methods for funding these types of endeavors will have to change. There is no nonprofit equivalent to an initial public offering - no foundation grant, individual donor, or government support that can equal what the free market supplies to innovative for-profit companies. Consider this fact from Bornstein's book: More than a third of the companies included in the Dow Jones Industrial Average today were added after 1990. Yet of the top 20 largest nonprofit service providers, not one was founded after 1980. The names of these men and women and their organizations are not well known - yet. We think they will be some day soon. And we believe that institutions will emerge to truly leverage their ideas. For when history books reflect back on this century, Social Capitalists will be recognized as the architects of change, as catalysts who raised our expectations for the world, and of ourselves. |
Genesis Exodus (GenEx) Learning Center’s objective is to decrease the elementary drop out rate by providing comprehensive community-based services with a focus on assisting elementary children in developing academic skills that will empower them to be successful through high school graduation. |
